About this product
Maker's Mark is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon, known for its soft, sweet character and the red wax hand-dipped on every bottle. Using wheat instead of rye gives it a gentler spice and a rounder taste.
Origin: The distillery is in Loretto, Kentucky. Bill Samuels Sr. bought it in 1953 and created the recipe, and his wife Margie designed the bottle, the label and the red wax seal. The first bottles went on sale in 1958.
How it's made: The mash bill is corn, red winter wheat and malted barley, with no rye. The bourbon is aged in new charred American oak barrels and bottled without an age statement, when the tasters decide it's ready.
Tasting notes: Caramel, vanilla and a hint of fruit on the nose. The palate is soft and sweet, with caramel, vanilla and light baking spice over a gentle woodiness, and the finish is smooth with a gentle warmth.
How to serve: Enjoy it neat or over ice. It also makes a smooth Old Fashioned, Whiskey Sour or Manhattan, where the softness of the wheat comes through.
Who it's for: Bourbon fans who prefer a sweeter, softer style, and a reliable bottle for anyone who enjoys mixing classic whiskey cocktails.
