About this product
Mateus Rosé is the light, medium-sweet Portuguese rosé in the famous flask-shaped bottle. Fresh, fruity and gently sparkling, it's one of the easiest wines to open on a warm afternoon.
Origin: Mateus was launched in 1942 by the founders of Sogrape, who wanted a fresh, approachable wine for export markets. The bottle shape was inspired by the flasks soldiers carried in the First World War, and the label shows the Mateus Palace in Vila Real. Today it's sold in well over a hundred countries.
How it's made: A blend of Portuguese red grapes, including Baga, Rufete, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca, made in a light rosé style with a little residual sugar and a fine natural spritz. Contains sulphites.
Tasting notes: Bright salmon-pink in the glass. Fresh strawberry and raspberry on the nose, followed by a soft, gently sweet palate with lively acidity and a light prickle on the tongue. Clean, fruity finish.
How to serve: Serve well chilled, at 6 to 8°C. Lovely as an aperitif, and an easy match for salads, grilled fish, seafood, white meat and mildly spiced Asian dishes.
Who it's for: Anyone who likes a fruity, easy-going rosé, summer lunches and picnics, and people who remember the bottle from family holidays.
