About this product
Schweppes Tonic Water is the classic tonic, with crisp bubbles and the clean, bitter edge of quinine. It's the mixer that made the G&T famous, and this 330 ml size is the right amount for one or two long drinks.
Origin: Schweppes dates back to 1783, when Jacob Schweppe, a watchmaker and amateur scientist in Geneva, developed a way to carbonate water. He moved his business to London in 1792, and in 1870 Schweppes launched its Indian Tonic Water, inspired by the quinine tonics drunk by the British in India.
How it's made: Carbonated water is blended with sugar, citrus acidity and quinine, which gives tonic its distinctive bitterness. Contains quinine. See the label for the full ingredients and nutrition information.
Tasting notes: Fresh citrus on the nose. The palate is crisp and lightly sweet, with lively bubbles, and the finish is clean, dry and gently bitter.
How to serve: Pour over plenty of ice with a London Dry gin and a wedge of lime for a classic G&T. It also pairs well with vodka, limoncello or an alcohol-free spirit, or on its own over ice with a slice of lemon.
Who it's for: Gin lovers, home bartenders, and anyone who enjoys a refreshing, bittersweet soft drink.
