About this product
Cointreau is the original French triple sec, a crystal-clear orange liqueur with a bright, fresh flavour. It's a key ingredient in over 300 classic cocktails, including the Margarita and Cosmopolitan.
Origin: Brothers Adolphe and Édouard-Jean Cointreau opened a distillery in Angers, in the Loire Valley, in 1849. Édouard's son, Édouard Cointreau, created the recipe in 1875, and it's still made in Angers today.
How it's made: Sweet and bitter orange peels, sun-dried and fresh, are steeped and distilled to capture their essential oils. The result is blended with sugar and alcohol and bottled at a full 40% strength.
Tasting notes: Crystal clear. A powerful aroma of fresh orange peel. The palate is balanced between sweet and bitter orange, smooth and full, with a long, zesty finish.
How to serve: Shake with tequila and lime for a Margarita, or with vodka, cranberry and lime for a Cosmopolitan. It's also excellent on the rocks with a slice of lime, or topped with soda for a light, refreshing long drink.
Who it's for: Cocktail lovers, home bartenders building a well-stocked bar, and anyone who enjoys bright citrus flavours.
